The bomb was being carried from a neighbouring state for triggering an explosion in Guwahati on the Republic Day,Additional Director General of Police S N Singh told reporters here today.
The accidental explosion occurred at Saat Kilo in Umrangso last night on the Umrangso-Meghalaya Road, the police said in Haflong today.
The deceased were identified as Md Mainuddin and Aniruddin belonging to the Lanka area of Nagaon district from the recovered vehicle registration certificate, the sources said.
Under the impact of the blast, the head and face of driver Md Mainuddin were severely mutilated and vehicle owner Aniruddin's body was thrown out onto the road causing instant death, they said.
