2 young British women charged with funding terror in Syria

Two young British women have been charged with funding and instigating terror acts in strife-torn Syria, Scotland Yard said today.
Amal Elwahabi, 27, and Nawal Msaad, 26, from London sought to make money available for terrorist activities in the embattled nation, police said.
Elwahabi was arrested last Thursday as she tried to board a flight to Istanbul from Heathrow. Msaad was arrested later on the same day from north-west London.
They are expected to appear at London's Westminster Magistrates' Court later today charged with being involved in the commission, preparation and instigation of acts of terrorism.
According to a Metropolitan Police statement, the two women "jointly entered into or became concerned in an arrangement as a result of which money was made available or was to be made available to another, and they knew or had reasonable cause to suspect that it would or may be used for the purposes of terrorism...These charges relate to terrorist activity in Syria."

They have been charged under Section 17 of the Terrorism Act 2000.
"Metropolitan Police Service's Counter Terrorism Command (SO15) will continue to pursue individuals and networks in the UK seeking to support terrorists engaged in the Syrian conflict," Scotland Yard said.
Britain's intelligence services estimate hundreds of British fighters are currently in Syria.
