20-year old elephant electrocuted on farm fence

A 20-year-old male elephant was electrocuted after it came in contact with an illegal electric fence near a farm in Mettupalayam in the district early this morning, forest department sources said.
They said that officials who rushed to Kandiyur, about 50 km from here on getting information from villagers found the dead pachyderm on the fence, which was connected to a powerful battery.
The two owners of the farm were taken into custody for questioning, they said.
