DPCC told a bench headed by Justice U D Salvi that these resident welfare associations, which formed a major chunk of population, can be utilised for installation of RWHS on experimental basis.
"Government of NCT of Delhi was directed to place before us the list of all residential welfare associations within its limits. The Government of NCT of Delhi has yet to file such list. Counsel appearing on behalf of DPCC submits that it has list of 2200 residential welfare associations as on 2014 and same can be utilised for examining the issue till such time the updated list by NCT of Delhi is placed," the bench noted.
The bench said the petition seeking installation of rainwater harvesting system in hotels, hospitals and malls in national capital was pending before it for last three years and the process relating to RWAs should be pursued simultaneously.
The matter is posted for next hearing on December 14.
Taking several hospitals, malls and hotels to task for not complying with its orders on rainwater harvesting, NGT had last year imposed fines and issued warrants to many of them for not installing these systems.
The NGT was hearing a petition by Noida resident Vikrant Kumar Tongad who had sought directions to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to install proper rainwater harvesting systems on all its existing, proposed and under-construction metro stations, tracks and depots.
