272 recommendations of Gill Commission implemented

Action has so far been taken in 272 of the 346 complaints allowed so far by the Justice (Retd.) Mehtab Singh Gill Commission investigating the false cases registered under the previous regime.

This was disclosed here by Justice (Retd) Gill after submitting the 10th interim report to Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh here Tuesday evening.

Giving details of the action taken, Gill said FIRs were filed in the courts in 162 cases, while compliance of orders were reported in 38.

In another 33 cases, proceedings were initiated under Section 182 of the Indian Penal Code, and action was taken against erring police officials in 10 cases.

Compensation had so far been awarded in 29 cases, as per feedback received from the Nodal Officers.

The chief minister has issued strict directives to the police and other concerned departments to move expeditiously to take action as suggested by the commission.

An official spokesperson said of the total 4,451 complaints received, as on August 30, 2018, the commission had disposed of 1,768 complaints. Of these, 1,413 were dismissed.

Bathinda district had reported 47 cases of action taken by police for cancellation of FIRs, followed by 17 from Moga district, 16 from Amritsar, 13 from Ludhiana, 12 from Tarn Taran and 11 each from Faridkot and Ferozepur, according to data received from the various districts.

Ludhiana had the maximum number of four cases of action taken against errant police officials, while Amritsar, Bhatinda, Faridkot, Ferozpur, Fazilka, and Mansa had one such case each.

The 10th interim report dealt with 229 cases, of which 11 were allowed by the commission.
