3,000 kg of banned plastic material seized in Coimbatore

Nearly 3,000 kg of plastic materials with less than 50 microns were seized during raids conducted in various shops in the city today.
A team of Corporation officials conducted raids in retail and wholesale shops on R G Street and Thomas Street and seized materials such as cups, carry bags made of plastic with less than 50 micron level, which were banned in the city from May one.
The value of the seizure was Rs 3.75 lakh, an official release said.
A fine of Rs 6,000 was colleted from shop keepers for violation and they were advised to use eco-friendly bags in future, it said.
