Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla, in his reply to the Lower House on July 28, said that a total of 3,647 suicides were committed due to drug abuse/addiction during 2014 in the country, as per the data submitted by National Crimes Record Bureau (NCRB).
A total of 4,008 and 4,591 suicides were reported due to drug abuse in 2012 and 2013 respectively, he said, while listing out the initiatives taken by the government to create awareness about the ill effects of alcoholism and drug abuse.
