3 arrested, over 55 kg poppy seized in Udhampur district

Three persons have been arrested and over 55 kg of poppy has been seized from two trucks in different places of Udhampur district in Jammu and Kashmir, police said today.
During a routine checking of vehicles on Jammu-Srinagar national highway at Jakheni in Udhampur district, a Punjab- bound truck was intercepted last night, a police officer said here today.
During checking, 52 kg of poppy was seized and two persons, Avtar Singh and Baljinder Singh, both residents of Punjab, were arrested. The vehicle has been impounded, he said.
Another truck was intercepted on the highway at Chenani in the same district last night. Around 3.5 kg of poppy was seized and a person, identified as Sukhwinder Singh from Punjab, was arrested, police said.
Separate cases have registered in the two incidents and investigations are underway, the officer said.
