Measles claimed the lives of three children in Nairainpur Bhatan village under Kerakat area here.
Cases of measles have been reported from the village and additional medical teams have been rushed there, CMO Ravindra Kumar said.
There were some cases of measles and the locals were getting treatment from nearby doctors but three children Khushi (3), Kareena (3) and Khushdeel (1) died one after the other, the CMO said.
Four others aged between two and five years were being treated at the Kerakat Community Health Center and all necessary precautions were being taken, he said.
A vaccine-preventable disease, measles is caused by a virus from the paramyxovirus family and spreads through air and direct contact. It is a highly contagious airborne infection.
Its symptoms are high fever that lasts for four to seven days, with a runny nose, a cough, watery eyes, and small white spots inside the cheeks developing in the initial stage.
India accounts for over one-third of the world's 1,34,000 measles annual deaths, shows World Health Organisation (WHO) data.
Measles deaths declined by 51 per cent from an estimated 1,00,000 in the year 2000 to 49,000 in 2015, according to the WHO.
