The accident occurred near Sundaraiah Nagar on the outskirts of Nellore between 7.45 AM and 8 AM when one of the tyres of a car, returning from Bangalore to Patna, got punctured and was being repaired, police said.
A seven-member team of Bihar election official Shakeel Ahmed Khan, including policemen, was travelling in the car. The team had gone to Bangalore to get some EVMs repaired, another police official said.
The car and one ambulance were parked near the roadside when the container-lorry hit both the vehicles from the rear-side.
Head constable Manjeet Singh and two constables - Kamal Ahmed Khan and Sandeep Kumar - died in the mishap, police said, adding that two civilians standing near the road were also killed while two others suffered serious injuries.
