The condition of seven of the injured was stated to be serious at the intensive care unit of Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
More than 10,000 people gathered at the venue to witness the 'manjuvirattu' in which bulls are let into the sporting arena with a rope unlike 'jallikattu', organised at Muthu Murugiah temple on the occasion of 'Chitra Pournami' (full moon day) festival at Kandramanikam village with the permission of district authorities.
Some bulls crossed the barricade and gored the spectators with three men, in the age group of 25-30, being injured seriously and succumbing at the hospital in Madurai.
Twenty eight persons were treated at the venue itself while others had been admitted to the local hospital.
Officials said the security arrangement went awry in the later stages of the game, leading to the casualty.
