Baktaun (22), neighbour of the victim, his friend Deepak and a minor have been arrested for the rape and murder of the 5-year-old girl, whose body was found with her head smashed near the railway station here, ASP Shalabh Mathur said.
The minor accused in the case is said to be 11-years-old but his age would be confirmed only after a medical test, he said.
According to the police, Baktaun and Deepak were drug addicts and lured the young girl to the railway tracks by promising her candy and money and raped her on November 18.
The accused even had the audacity to go with the victim's father and others, while they were searching for the missing girl, police said.
However, the culprits were apprehended when the locals pointed out that they were seen with the victim the evening the crime took place, police said.
The duo has confessed to their crime, they said, adding that the minor boy was taken into custody as he was reportedly present at the spot when the crime was committed.
Further probe in the matter is on, Mathur added.
The victim's father, a rickshaw-puller had also alleged that he was pushed out of the Rail Bazar police station on the same day when he went there to register a missing complaint of his daughter.
