3 lakh relief for kin of persons killed in man-animal conflict

Jammu and Kashmir government will enhance to Rs three lakh the compensation for the next of kin of those persons killed in man-animal conflict in the state.
"Compensation to those killed in man-animal conflict would be enhanced to Rs three lakh while Rs 1.50 lakh would be paid to those injured in such incidents," Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmad said at a meeting here yesterday.
Ahmad directed authorities of Wildlife Department to come up with a proposal to this effect for seeking approval from State Board for Wildlife, headed by the Chief Minister.
The Centre has already enhanced this compensation to Rs two lakhs, he said.

The Minister said the enhancement of compensation has become imperative in view of the compensation enhanced in other accidents.
Ahmad directed concerned officers to ensure provision of compensation to those killed within four days and to those injured within a week after getting the medical report.

"Where we take measures for protection of wildlife, we must be extra cautious about the safety of the lives of the people," the Minister said.
He directed officers of Wildlife Department to take necessary steps for ensuring protection of people living near forests.
The Minister was informed that Rs nine lakh has been paid as compensation to nine families out of 10 death cases that have taken place during the current year.
