Three members of a family were killed when a car they were travelling in was hit by a truck in Odisha's Dhenkanal district today, police said.
The mishap took place on National Highway 55 when an employee of Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd (MCL), his wife and his son were travelling towards Talcher from Bhubaneswar, the Inspector-In-Charge of Motanga police station, Prabhat Tripathy, said.
All of them died on the spot, he said, adding that the bodies were retrieved from the mangled car with the help of a gas cutter.
The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Gobind Tripathy, 49-year-old Sagarika Tripahty and 25-year-old Sourav Sagar, he said.
The driver of the truck fled the spot after the accident, he said, adding that efforts were on to trace him.
