3 policemen suspended for allowing Nisham to use mobile phone

Three policemen have been suspended in connection with the alleged mobile phone calls made by beedi tycoon Muhammed Nisham while he was being taken to Bengaluru for appearing in a case, police said.
Earlier, police had said that he made calls from inside the central jail here.
However, DIG (Jail) had yesterday visited the jail and had said no mobile phones have been found in his cell. He also had stated that two calls were made by the accused on October 20 while being taken to Bengaluru for appearing in a case.
Police said the three policemen from the Armed Reserve Camp had accompanied the accused to Bengaluru when he is said to have made two calls to his brothers threatening them.

The three were suspended for their alleged lapses while on duty, police said.
Nisham had been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Thrissur court in January this year besides an additional 24 years and a fine of Rs 80.30 lakh for killing the security guard of his residential complex.
Nisham, in an inebriated state, had assaulted the guard Chandrabose and later rammed his luxury vehicle against him in the early hours of January 29 last year, irked over the delay in opening the main gates of his posh residential complex in Thrissur.
The severely injured guard died on February 16 last year.
