30,000 throng MAM stadium for R-Day event in Jammu amid tight

Around 30,000 people today thronged the M A M stadium here for the 69th Republic Day celebrations, where the Jammu and Kashmir police's daredevil team left the spectators spellbound, as contingents from various armed forces and government departments also showcased their might.
Governor N N Vohra hoisted the tricolour at the state- level function at the Maulana Azad Stadium, attended by Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Legislative Assembly Speaker Kavinder Gupta, Chief Justice of J-K High Court Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, among others.
The Governor inspected the parade and took the salute at an impressive march past which was commanded by Col Sriram S of the 1st Battalion of the J-K Light Infantry.
The contingents in the parade were from the Army, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, men and women from state armed police, state police, State Disaster Response Force, Haryana Police, fire and emergency services, forest protection force, excise department, SSB 66 Battalion, ex- servicemen.
NCC boys and girls, Bharat Scouts and Guides, boys and girls from various schools, bands of Army, BSF, state police, state armed police and from several boys and girls schools also showcased their talent.
Children from various educational institutions presented scintillating and colourful cultural programmes, including traditional folk songs.
The motorcycle-borne team of 'Dare Devils' of Jammu and Kashmir Police left the spectators spellbound while colourful tableau was also highlights of the event.
A colourful cultural pageantry on national integration and the glorious composite heritage of the state was presented by thousands of students from various local schools today.
Weapons and equipment display by the Army, demonstration of martial arts by skilled men and women and motorcycle acrobatics display by the dare-devils of the state police were witnessed by the audience in the jam-packed stadium.
Other attractions of the programme included tableau on "Save Water, Judicious Use of Water and Rain Water Harvesting" by Executive Director, CCDU, Department of PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Jammu, "Construct and Use Toilets for Healthy and Happy Life" by the Directorate of Rural Sanitation, Jammu.
"Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritive Abhiyan" by the NRHM, Jammu, "Swach Bharat Mission (Urban)" by Jammu Municipal Corporation, "Energy Conservation" by the Department of Science and Technology, Jammu and Young Sports achievers by Youth Services and Sports were also part of the parade.
