39 Great Indian bustards sighted in DNP in Raj

Around 39 Great Indian bustards have been sighted on the occasion of Buddha Purnima or full moon night in the Desert National Park (DNP) area in Rajasthan, an official said today.
The counting was held under the moon light in Sudasari, Pokaran, Ramdevra, Chauhani areas on Wednesday during which as many as 39 Great Indian bustards, popularly known as Godawan, were sighted, the official at the DNP said.
The Wildlife Institute of India had also conducted counting of the birds nearly two months ago but the figures have not been released yet.
The DNP is spread over 3,162 sq km area in Jaisalmer and Barmer in the state.

The Great Indian Bustard was included in the list of "critically endangered" species after its number fell drastically due to poaching and erosion of habitat among other reasons.
