A local court has sentenced four persons to 10 years' imprisonment for the 2012 burning of a car of a district and sessions judge.
Additional district and sessions judge of Hisar Basarudin held Baljit Singh, Sandeep, Rambir and Manjeet, all residents of Mirchpur village in Hisar district, guilty and sent them to jail.
All the convicts were also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 5,000 each, and in case of default they would have to undergo imprisonment for additional one month.
The car of Jind district and sessions judge Raminder Jain was set on fire at Mirchpur village here on the night of March 6, 2012 when he was on his way from Hisar to Jind, the prosecution said.
According to the prosecution, Jain, along with his gunman Ram Avtar and driver Satpal, were going to Jind in a car via Barwala in Hisar on the day, when an agitation by members of the Jat community who were demanding reservation in government jobs under OBC category, was going on.
When the judge's car reached Mirchpur village, the mob had already blocked Barwala-Jind road there. Hawaldar Ram Avtar stepped down from the car and tried to remove the blockade.
Some persons snatched the revolver of the gunman and beat him and the driver up. Jain, however, managed to escape from the car and informed the police.
During the period, the mob set the car on fire. Later, on a complaint by Ram Avtar, the police had registered a case against unknown persons under various Sections of the IPC.
Later on, the four accused had been arrested in this connection.
