Four persons, including one who tried to smuggle gold bars concealed in lower abdomen, were arrested in two separate incidents of smuggling at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) here.
All four, who were involved in alleged smuggling of three kilograms of gold valuing over Rs 78 lakh, have been arrested, a customs official said.
Acting on a tip-off, the customs officials had yesterday intercepted Dilare Singh and Jitender Singh on their arrival here from Bangkok.
"On detailed examination of their baggage and personal search, two kilograms of gold bars were found being concealed in two TV stands provided with 32 inches Samsung LED TVs," a press release issued today by the customs said.
The duo, who live in Shastri Nagar area of the national capital, were arrested and the recovered gold was seized.
On the basis of duo's interrogation, another person Pramod Saini, who was waiting to receive them, was also arrested, it said.
In another incident, Sanjay Kumar was arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle a gold bar weighing a kilogram by hiding it in his lower abdomen.
Kumar, who lives in Pashchim Vihar area of the capital, had arrived here from Bangkok.
Following intelligence and suspicion of his involvement in alleged smuggling, Kumar was intercepted on his arrival and his baggage and personal search was conducted, the release said.
The search did not detect any gold and the officials then decided to conduct Kumar's full body X-ray.
"During X-ray of his body at Safdarjung hospital, some foreign body was noticed in his lower abdomen.
The foreign bodies turned out to be six rectangular gold bars collectively weighing one kg," it said.
The toal value of seized gold in both the cases is more than Rs 78 lakh, the release said.
