The camp was held at the Haflong Civil Hospital where the collected blood was deposited for accident victims, premature babies, patients undergoing major surgery and lower segment Caesarean section (LSCS) patients, said an Assam Rifles press release.
The camp received positive response from the security forces and the public with 30 Assam Rifles personnel and 17 civilians voluntarily donating blood, the release said.
Inaugurating the camp, 43 Assam Rifles Commandant Col R K Singh said blood donation was one of the noble gestures of humanity, which promotes fraternity, unity and brotherhood and also serves to ensure peace, prosperity and progress of the nation.
Army Day is celebrated on January 15 every year in recognition of Lieutenant General (later Field Marshal) K M Cariappa taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from the last British Commander-in-Chief of India General Sir Francis Butcher in 1949.
