Special courts in Bihar are trying a total 45 cases involving illicit assets of public servants.
Principal Secretary (Vigilance) S K Negi told reporters here today that the department was vigorously pursuing all the 45 cases for confiscation of ill-gotten assets amassed by some public servants.
Vigilance department had initially filed 49 cases for confiscation of illicit wealth, valued at about Rs 42 crore, of a number of public servants in the special courts which had been set up under the Bihar Special Court Act, 2009.
Out of them it has attained success in four cases and the rest are in various stages of trial, he said.
In the four cases in which the special courts ordered for confiscation of the illicit assets, the state government has already taken possession of the properties and set up schools and hostels, Negi said.
The department has successfully pursued cases against public servants under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and clinched conviction of 51 tainted public servants between 2006 and April 2013.
The vigilance sleuths arrested 512 corrupt public servants between 2006 and 2012, Negi said.
The department, he said, gave equal emphasis to speedy investigation into corruption cases and charge sheeting and filing of final affidavit in the designated courts to expeditiously bring the tainted public servants to justice.
Its drive against corruption in public life would get more teeth after its infrastructure and manpower were strengthened, he added.
