The woman, identified as Nisha Khan, was a widow with two teenage children. She had a book-binding workshop in the ground floor of her residence where the crime was committed, police said.
Khan's employees told the police that two persons had come to her workshop in the afternoon and were having a conversation with her.
While one of the employees was asked to arrange tea for the guests, the other was sitting with the victim, they said.
The employee, who was accompanying the victim, claimed that one of the guests suddenly pulled out a knife and asked him to turn around.
The two employees of the deceased have so far emerged as prime suspects in the case. The police team is also questioning the neighbours and checking CCTV grabs obtained from nearby premises to ascertain the identities of the two assailants.
"A case under section 302 (murder) of IPC has been registered and we have got crucial leads in the case," DCP (East) B S Gurjar said.
Meanwhile, the police team recovered the weapon of offence, a blood-stained knife, from the second floor of the building. Blood stains were also seen on the shirt of the employee who was present with the victim during the crime, he said.
The motive of the murder is still not clear and the case is being probed from all possible angles, police added.
