5,474 people missing in Uttarakhand floods feared dead: Govt

A total of 5,474 people, who are still missing since the rains and floods hit Uttarakhand, are feared to be dead, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
"5,474 persons are still missing and feared to be no more. These figures are provisional as the verification process is on," Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran told the Upper House in reply to a question.
Of the missing persons, 1,925 belonged to Uttar Pradesh, 1,032 hailed from Madhya Pradesh, 933 from Uttarakhand, 503 from Rajasthan, 217 from Delhi, 168 from Maharashtra and 126 from Gujarat, he said.
