5 arrested with 100 kg cannabis in Noida

With the arrest of five people and seizure of 100 kg cannabis, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police Friday claimed to have busted an inter-state gang of drug traffickers, an official said.

The police team from Sector 20 police station also seized firearms and cash worth Rs 10,000 collected from the sale of the cannabis from the traffickers, he said.

"Inspector Jayveer Singh was tipped off about the suspected movement of the gang coming from Bihar with a huge quantity of ganja to be sold in the national capital region," Senior Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said.

Singh along with some police personnel conducted a routine check on the Rajnigandha Chowk in the heart of the city, he said.

"Around 3.48 am, they intercepted a car in which the five accused were transporting the cannabis. On further probe, they recovered the cannabis from the boot of the car along with the firearms," Sharma said.

"A 100 kg of ganja, four pistols along with some bullets, smartphones and cash worth Rs 10,000 were seized by the team," the SSP said.

"The seized cannabis, estimated worth Rs 20 lakh, was brought here with an aim to be supplied in the NCR and their target were mostly youngsters and students," he told reporters.

The car which was being used by the gang was also impounded, he said.

Those arrested were identified as Dharmaraj, Deepak Yadav, Kallu Yadav, Amit Kumar and Rocky Kumar, he said.

The five accused were booked under various sections of the Arms Act and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, the SSP, adding that they were remanded to judicial custody.
