A manhunt has been launch for five juveniles who had fled from an observation home in North-West Delhi, police said today.
"Although a formal complaint has not been registered, we have received a letter from the authorities of the juvenile home about the incident. Efforts are on to nab the five juvenile offenders," said DCP Police (North-West) N Gnana Sambandhan.
According to police, the five boys escaped Kingsway Camp facility at Mukherjee Nagar on Wednesday night.
These five boys were among the 10 inmates who were recently shifted from a similar observation home in Majnu Ka Tila after they created ruckus on the campus on August 8. These juvenile homes are run by Women and Child Development department of the Delhi government.
"We have informed police about the incident, we are determined to bring them (juveniles) back," said an official of Women and Child Development department.
A police official said, "When we received information about the break, a team was sent which found that other juveniles were also trying to flee. The team instantly thwarted their escape bid. We are trying to apprehend those who managed to run away."
On August 8, juvenile offenders lodged in the remand home in North Delhi's Majnu Ka Tila area had pelted stones and set blankets on fire to protest "poor" amenities in the observation centre, following which some of them were shifted to the observation home in Kingsway Camp.
