"The process for setting up of five new medical colleges has been formally set off with the issuance of notification by the Health and Medical Education Department," he said here.
The places where these medical colleges are expected to be set up are Anantnag and Baramulla in Kashmir region while Doda, Kathua and Rajouri in Jammu region, he said.
As per the notification, the official said each college will have an intake capacity of 100 admissions at the under- graduate level (MBBS) for which a Memorandum of Understanding between the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the State government has already been signed.
The Government has also appointed nodal officers to make these colleges functional, the spokesman said.
