A large number of devotees have been visiting Kalkaji Temple and Chhattarpur Temples to pray during Navratri.
There were many complaints being received about theft of valuables and pick pocketing at these religious places, they said.
A police team learnt about the presence of the members of one such gang in Pushp Vihar. A trap was laid and the five accused persons were arrested on Tuesday.
Police recovered Rs 40,000, 11 mobile phones and five motorcycles from the accused. With their arrest, the police claimed to have solved 12 cases of thefts and pickpocketing.
They used to leave for Delhi on separate motorcycles to target devotees at crowded temples such as Chhatarpur and Kalkaji, he said.
