5-yr-old dies in road mishap

A five-year-old kid was crushed under the wheels of a speeding truck after the vehicle hit a motorcycle on which he was pillon-riding on the Berachampa-Haroa Road in North 24 Parganas district.
Sahid Sahaji (5) was pillion riding on his father's motorcycle this morning when the truck hit them. The kid died on the spot, while his father was rushed to a private medical facility for treatment, officers of Deganga police station said.
Soon after the accident, residents put up a roadblock and refused the handover the kid's body to the police.
When a police contingent reached the spot, agitated residents started pelting stones in which, a sub-inspector and two other police constables were injured.

"Three police personnel were injured in the stone pelting. The blockade was lifted after two hours and the body has been sent for post mortem. The truck driver has been arrested," said an officer.
