The incident was reported yesterday from north Delhi's Timarpur area, they added.
The incident took place when the mother was returning from Nizamuddin railway station to her home in outer Delhi's Jain Nagar
Bhumika, fell from her mother's lap when the auto- rickshaw driver took a sharp turn to avoid ramming a stationary tempo, the police said.
She was run over by the auto-rickshaw and was injured. She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared brought dead, they added.
