They kept in a vigil after hearing reports of cattle being smuggled through the city from various parts of the state, noticed two lorries moving at Kanjipalayam this morning, stopped them and rescued the animals.
On being informed, police rushed to the spot, seized the cattle and questioned the lorry crew.
The residents cautioned the drivers not to indulge in such activities in future, they said.
