50 Egyptian protesters arrested after clashes

At least 50 protesters were arrested today after clashes broke out between them and security forces during a march to commemorate the third anniversary of street violence that had injured hundreds of people.
At least four protesters received minor injuries during the clashes in downtown Cairo and are being treated in ambulances, Director of emergency services in the Ministry of health Khaled Weshahy said.
The protesters took to the streets today to commemorate the anniversary of Mohamed Mahmoud street clashes, which took place three years ago, when police fired teargas, birdshot, rubber bullets and live ammunition at unarmed protesters, who were opposing the rule of Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) at that time.

Police said they were preventing them from attacking the Ministry of Interior headquarters, which are close to the site of clashes, on a road that is parallel to Mohamed Mahmoud street.
Hundreds of people were seriously injured in the 2011 clashes including dozens who suffered critical eye injuries.
The street then was renamed as the "The eyes of Freedom" by protesters as many of them lost one or two of their eyes during the clashes.
The Ministry of Health reported the death toll at 41, while Amnesty International said it acquired a document claiming 51 people were killed.
