50 per cent of persons missing from Delhi are women

More than 50 per cent of over 5,000 people, including 1,766 children, who went missing so far this year in the national capital were women.
The number of women who are yet to be traced is also above the 50 per cent mark.
This was disclosed by Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha.
According to the statistics, a total of 5,119 people went missing in the capital this year till April 15 out of which 2,699 were women.
Out of a total of 1,766 children who went missing, a whopping 746 were girls while among the 3,353 adults, more than 50 per cent (1,679) were women.
Similar are the statistics for the previous year -- out of the 15,272 missing persons, 7,675 were women.
According to police, of the 1,766 children who went missing this year, they managed to trace back 1,157 while 609 are yet to be found.
Out of the 609 untraced children, 380 are girls. Among the adults, police are yet to know the whereabouts of 678 women.
To another question, Ramachandran said the national capital witnessed 117 murders, 2,449 robberies and 598 snatching incidents. The number of thefts were 6,601.
On recruitment in Delhi Police solely for Metro and railways, he said the Home Ministry has received a proposal for creation of manpower in 15 police stations.
"In view of the total ban imposed by the Ministry of Finance on creation of plan and non-plan posts, the proposal of creation of posts are not being considered," he said.
