The deceased has been identified as Ram Naresh Maurya. He was a resident of Dihwa under police station Musafirkhana and was serving as a priest in a temple situated at Nonarghat near Kadunala on Jamo-Warisganj Road under police station Jamo, SP of Amethi Hira Lal said.
Some unknown miscreants killed the priest by a sharpened weapon and fled away, he said.
At the time of the incident, Maurya was all alone in the temple, he added.
Though heavy police forces have been camping on the spot but it may be challenge for police to solve the matter.
