507 corruption cases pending for trial in J-K

"A total 507 cases were pending trial in the various courts of Anti-Corruption in the state, whereas 131 cases were pending for investigation till date", an official spokesman said here yesterday.

In about 60 corruption cases, the accused officials were held guilty in last seven years, he said.

There was no pendency on part of the state government regarding the cases referred by State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for grant of Prosecution Sanction, he added.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Madhav Lal has directed the SVO to increase the pace of investigation and bring out department wise patterns of misconducts and corruption for effective supervision.

Chief Secretary took a review of the functioning and performance of SVO in a meeting which was attended by the Vigilance Commissioner, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Secretary, General Administrative Department (GAD) and other officers here yesterday.

The Secretary also laid emphasis on streamlining the process of Vigilance clearances and the pace and manner of the departmental inquiries being conducted by various departments.

Various proposals for effective conduct of departmental inquiries were also discussed and GAD was asked to issue the instructions separately.
