The West Bengal State Power Distribution Co Ltd (WBSEDCL) has penalised 6,764 Durga Puja pandals for illegal power consumption.
The WBSEDCL supplies power to the whole state except Kolkata and part of Howrah.
The utility said that during routine checks by regional and divisional offices 6,764 pandals have been penalised for illegal power consumption.
The utility said Rs 55.80 lakh has been claimed from these committees for drawing 12,889 KVA power by the said committees.
WBSEDCL had deployed 1450 low tension mobile vans to check round the clock power issues during the festive days.
The power demand in their distribution area on Maha Saptami was 5,100 MW including puja load, it added.
