Thirteen people were returning from a fair when their multi-utility vehicle fell by 400-ft into the turbulent river late last night, Additional SP S Lepcha said.
While four bodies were fished out by locals this morning, two others perished on way to hospital, he said.
Six others were hospitalised--four in North Bengal Medical College and Hospital and the other two at Kalimpong Sub-divisional Hospital in serious condition, he said.
One person still remained untraced but the rescue team suspended work due to dusk and foggy conditions.
The vehicle was on way to Sevak and the occupants all residents of Teesta Malli area.
