Sixty-percent of the complaints received by Himachal Pradesh Commission for Women are redressed amicably every year, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said today.

He was addressing the state level legal awareness programme and felicitation function held by the Commission here.

"Efforts are made by the Commission to solve the complaints amicably. That is why, over 600 of total about 1000 complaints received every year by the Commission are redressed amicably," he said.

Thakur said there were several laws for women empowerment and checking crime against them though a lot still needed to be done.

Merely making laws is not enough, but the need is to change the mindset of the society, he added.

Thakur said the state government increased the assistance given under the 'Beti Hai Anmol Yojna' (for girl child) to BPL families from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.

The chief minister also unveiled the logo of the Commission on the occasion.

A cash prize of Rs 11,000 was given to the designer of the logo and Rs 5,100 to the runner up.

Thakur also honoured women achievers in different fields on the occasion.

Speaking at the gathering, the Commission Chairperson Daizy Thakur said such programmes provided an opportunity for women to know about their rights.
