7 die in storm

several others suffered injuries as a severe storm struck different parts of Assam today, official sources said here.

The storm whipped across lower Assam districts of Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Darrang and Nalbari killing seven people and injuring nearly hundreds, damaging several houses and uprooting trees.

Six people, including three children, were killed in three different villages of Dhubri district when the tin roof of their house collapsed and fell on them.

A woman and her two-and-half-year-old child died at Baruapara village while a 70-year old and his two grand-children succumbed in Manipurgaon under Bilasipara police station.

Another man in Fakirganj area under South Salmara police station died in the storm which also claimed the life of a man at Bhotgaon area under Kakiragram police station of Kokrajhar district.

Meanwhile, several people were injured in Barpeta, Darrang and Nalbari districts and properties worth several lakh of rupees got damaged in the storm.
