As many as seven people, including two minors, have lost their lives during incessant rains in Uttar Pradesh's Amethi district in the last two days, officials said today.
The deceased have been identified as two-year-old Arohi, Raj Karan (42), Rajpati (40), Lakhana (55), Dhangu Kori (65) and Meda (80). The victims, who are from different areas, died after their mud houses collapsed, they said.
Another five-year-old girl, Pihu, drowned when she slipped into a pond under Jamo area of the district. She was rushed to a hospital where she was declared dead on arrival, they added.
The revenue officers of the areas visited the affected families and assured speedy assistance.
