Seven cadres of Trutiya Prastuti Committee (TPC), a breakaway faction of the CPI (Maoists), were killed in a gun battle between its two factions in Keredari area of Hazaribag district, the police said today.
DIG of North Chotonagpur Division, Bhimsen Tuti, said seven cadres were killed in the gun fight on the intervening night of May 20 and 21 which had broken out following a dispute on the sharing of extortion money realized from construction companies.
The police sources, however, said bodies of only three TPC cadres were recovered, besides a severed head from the spot inside a jungle. The three were identified as TPC zonal commander Sagar, sub-zonal commanders Manish and Jhonson, they said.
The head was yet to be unidentified. It was suspected that the ultras ran away with the other bodies and the injured, if any.
The DIG said that Hazaribag SP Anup Birtharay went to the spot after receiving information of the killings and started a search operation in the jungles of Hendigir hill.
Tuti said that said a blood-stained carpet and other items were found in the jungle.
The TPC was active in Keredari and the adjoining industrial belt and used to extort officials of construction companies, the sources said.
