More than 8,000 bottles of illicit liquor have been seized by excise officials in Delhi as part of a crackdown against irregularities and violations in the supply and sale of liquor.
According to the excise department, 528 bottles of illicit liquor were seized last night in the Nizamuddin area alone.
Excise Commissioner JB Singh said that illicit whiskey, which was non-duty paid in Delhi, was being transported by two accused, identified as Vijender Yadav and Dhiraj Yadav, in a vehicle. The duo was apprehended by an Excise Intelligence Bureau team.
Excise officials said they have seized a total of 8,436 bottles of various brands of liquor and cases have been registered in Burari, Barakhamba Road, Pandav Nagar, Bhalswa Dairy, Vasant Kunj(S), Geeta Colony and Alipur Police Stations under Delhi Excise Act, 2009.
Excise Commissioner Singh said that raids will continue in the national capital to check discrepancies and ascertain whether the provisions are being properly followed.
