8 eye patients fear sight loss in Ajmer

Eight patients who had gone for cataract eye surgery at a private hospital in Ajmer district of Rajasthan feared sight loss due to infection, a health official said today.
"Eight patients who went for cataract eye surgery and lens transplant at a private hospital in Kishangarh of Ajmer district feared sight loss due to infection," he said.
The affected patients have been referred to Ahmedabad, the official said.
Out of 45 persons, who had under gone cataract eye surgery and transplant at a private hospital in Kishangarh during an eye camp from April 21-25, four each of male and female showed serious eye infection and they fear eye sight loss, Joint Director of Medical and Health Department (Ajmer division) Madhu Vijayvargiya told PTI over telephone.

These patients on suspected infection were first referred to JLN Hospital in Ajmer, from where they were referred to Ahemdabad, she said, adding, free transportation and medical experts were annexed with them to reach Ahmedabad at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a committee was set up to probe the matter and the private hospital's operation theatre was sealed after taking samples and examining facilities available there, she said.

The committee comprises chief medical and health officer-Ajmer, ophthalmologist of JLN hospital, microbiologist and joint director, she said.
Seventeen more patients have also complained of similar problems and they were being examined by the JLN hospital experts, she said.

When asked whether there was any FIR lodged against the hospital, she said it was nor the job of Medical and Health department.
