CBI Senior Public prosecutor Naim Raza said that after recording statements of 15 witnesses Judge Anil Kumar Jha pronounced his verdict awarding the rigorous imprisonment to Kunwar Pal and imposed on him a fine of Rs 50,000 for the murder of Naveen.
In the event of default of payment of fine, he shall undergo RI for another two years.
Raza said that on July 13, 2002 a tree fell in the farm land of Naveen in Chilkana Paanz Bangar village in Saharanpur, damaging the standing crop in the field of Kunwar Pal after which an altercation ensued between him and Naveen.
Not satisfied with the police investigations, Meena, the mother of Naveen, had prayed before the Allahabad High Court for an inquiry into the matter by CBI.
On July 18, 2003, the High Court transferred the case to CBI. Since then, the case was being heard at CBI court-II in Ghaziabad.
