Around 800 'hamlets' in the city have been identified as "vulnerable" while 1,467 booths marked "sensitive" for the fifth phase of poll on Saturday in the ongoing Assembly elections in the state, city police sources said.
Apart from 113 companies of central Forces, around 12,000 additional police personnel from the Kolkata Police along with 6,000 police personnel from 42 police stations will man the city on Saturday.
"We will do everything to conduct peaceful elections on Saturday. We will try our best to keep the elections clean. No nuisance will be allowed and we will deal with anybody trying to disrupt the situation very strictly," the sources said.
The city has 1,024 polling premises with 2,807 booths which will go into polls from 7AM to 6PM on Saturday.
Kolkata Police has already picked up "disturbing elements" from different pockets of the city.
Around 140 persons, including 15-20 criminals, have been arrested from Tiljala, Kasba, Chetla, Garden Reach and Port areas besides, Behala, Thakurpukur and Jadavpur areas to avoid any "unwanted incidents" and "keep the election day clean", the sources said.
Another top source in the Force said that DC DD Nagendra Tripathi will be in charge of the Port area which is considered to be a "crucial" part of the city on the polling day.
"We have already started our vigilance for Saturday's polls. A special team consisting of 15 deputy commissioners has been formed to monitor areas in the city.
"Earlier, it was decided that Tripathi will monitor Kolkata Police Station areas of Alipore, New Alipore, Chetla but later his name was chosen for the Port areas," the IPS officer said praising the DC DD's "vibrant" role during the April 21 polls in the city.
