The victim, identified as G Sankari, was asleep last night when the robbers broke into her residence. They managed to steal five tolas of gold and hit the woman on her head. Then they fled the spot, Two Town Circle Inspector Venkatappa Rao said.
The woman was found dead when her nephew reached the house this morning, he said.
Police suspect that the accused banged her head against a tap, thus causing the fatal injury.
