9-yr-old drowns in canal in Jammu

A nine-year-old boy was today feared dead after he was washed away in the Ranbir Canal in the outskirts of Jammu city, police said.
Police team rushed to the spot after receiving information that Sourav Kumar had drowned in the Ranbir Canal in the Purkhoo area, a police officer said.
According to the local people, the boy slipped and fell into the canal when he went there to to wash his hands.
But his parents have refused this claim, he said.
"His parents claim that he was pushed by some other boys," the officer said.
He said that a case has been registered and investigations initiated, adding that efforts are on to trace and fish out the body.
