A&N admn to raise dam's height for solving water problem

Interacting with mediapersons at the Dhanikari Dam site near Port Blair, the Chief Engineer, APWD said most of the concrete works had been completed by last December while the rest will be taken up once the water level of the dam is reduced to 56 metres from the existing 58 metres.

He said APWD had to curtail the water supply by 30 per cent in view of lowering the water level to pave way for completion of the project latest by June this year.

"Once the height of the dam goes up by 5 metres to 67.5 metres, residents of Port Blair will not face water problems for the next 15 to 20 years and thereby increasing the water storage capacity by 70 per cent by bringing in highly sophisticated equipment from Germany.

Dhanikari is a major source for water supply to entire Port Blair and nearby areas.
