The Civil Aviation Ministry has formed a team of five officials to regularly inspect the Goa airport terminal, after its false ceiling caved-in earlier this year.
"Airport Authority of India has constituted a safety team of five officers for inspection on daily routine and for conducting safety-related checks and undertaking preventive measures," Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju told South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar in a written communication, a copy of which is with PTI.
Two passengers were injured on July 19 when the false ceiling of Goa airport terminal collapsed.
Sawaikar, in a letter addressed to the Civil Aviation Ministry on July 23, 2015, had informed about the incident demanding measures to avoid recurrence of such mishaps.
"The AAI has also constituted an inter-disciplinary team from Central Headquarters to inspect the terminal building and to examine in detail the cause of falling of the ceiling," Raju has said.
"AAI has further informed that continuous efforts are being made to provide more and more facilities and also to improve the maintenance/ cleanliness of the new terminal building," the letter reads.
The new terminal building was inaugurated in December 2013. It is an integrated facility which handles both domestic and international operations.
Constructed at the cost of Rs 345 crore, the building can handle peak-hour passenger traffic of 2,750 at a time.
