Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today held state-wide protests against the SAD-BJP regime, demanding the resignation of state agriculture minister Tota Singh for an alleged "pesticide scam".
Protests were held in various district headquarters by AAP workers, demanding removal of the agriculture minister.
The party senior leaders led the dharnas and raised anti- government slogans against Punjab Agriculture Minister.
AAP also submitted memorandum to the authorities and demanded resignation of the minister for pushing farmers to commit suicide.
Punjab co-convener of AAP, Durgesh Pathak said, "while the peasantry and industry of Punjab is dying and people are being tortured by Police and Akali leaders, Congress and Akali Dal are busy with holding rallies."
He said the people of Punjab are observing every move of both parties and a befitting reply will be given to them in the elections.
AAP leaders said the protest was against the "anti-farmer" policies of Akali Dal-BJP government and selling "substandard" pesticide to the farmers that led to crop failure in Punjab.
Number of farmers have committed suicide in Cotton belt, they said.
Protests were held at Gurdaspur led by Succha Singh Chhotepur, at Jalandhar at Hoshiarpur Yamini Gomar, at Anandpur Sahib Himmat Singh Shergil, at Ludhiana G S Kang, at Fatehgarh Sahib Harjot Singh Bains, at Faridkot, Sadhu Singh, at Firozpur Kultar Singh, at Bathinda, Baljinder Kaur, at Sangrur Bhagwant Mann and at Patiala Balbir Singh led workers.
