Accusing the Haryana government of not releasing Delhi's share of 450 cusecs of Yamuna water daily in violation of a Supreme Court order, AAP legislators today protested outside the Haryana Bhawan here.

The protest by AAP legislators and their supporters came a day after the Delhi government accused Haryana of giving political patronage to polluting industries that release ammonia in the Yamuna leading to a scarcity of potable water in the national capital.

The protesters alleged that withholding the release of water by Haryana was in violation of the 1996 apex court order.

"The Haryana government is not complying with the water sharing agreements between the two states and is not releasing Delhi's share of Yamuna water. The state is also in violation of the Supreme Court order on this issue," Sanjeev Jha, Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Burari, said.

Jha alleged that the Haryana government's behaviour was politically-motivated.

The Delhi Jal Board, too, has approached the Supreme Court seeking directions to Haryana to release adequate water. It is likely to mention the plea for urgent hearing on Monday.

Voicing concerns over water scarcity in the city, another AAP MLA, Madan Lal, said: "Summer has now begun in Delhi and the demand for water is also growing."
